January 2- The second day of the New Year is observed as World Introvert Day . It’s a day for the introverts where people are reminded to honor introverts by giving them the time and space they require. Generally we all have seen an introverts , in our friends circle, family, workplace or in different areas of our life. An introvert person is a typically reserved or a quiet, shy person who prefers to be alone than with other people. Introverts are typically more comfortable interacting with small groups of people rather than large groups (as at parties).
They prefer to rather stay in calm environments instead of engaging in social circles.
However being shy and being introverted doesn’t mean the same although it might sound same . Instead of spending time with others, an introvert person enjoys spending time alone since spending time with groups make them more stressful or such person might get emotionally drained as well. But being a shy person may not exactly mean only spending me time but a shy person rather seems to be afraid of interacting with others.
This day is observed worldwide in order to give people the opportunity to appreciate introverts and to understand them more.
In the year 2011, the first World Introvert Day was held. World Introvert Day was brought to life by the popular German psychologist and author of the free e-book “Happily Introverted Ever After,” Felicitas Heyne.
The German psychologist and author wrote a blog post titled “Here’s Why We Need a World Introvert Day” on her website “iPersonic” on September 20, 2011.
And that’s how World Introvert Day was started . Through her blog post the writer highlighted the issues faced by the introverts. The idea behind observing this special day right after the new Year’s Day is that introverts require time to get recharged with energy after the busy holiday season.
According to reports, the research from the( MBTI) Myers Briggs Type Indicator global sample reveals that 56.8% of people in the world are drawn towards introversion.
In 2011, research by psychologists Jennifer Grimes, Jonathan Cheek, and Julie Norem broke introversion into four main types: social introvert, thinking introvert, anxious introvert, and restrained introvert.
We should appreciate the introverts around us as although they might appear as sad, boring, selfish , arrogant or uninteresting but introverts are actually mostly known to be active listeners who are thoughtful and observant. They prove to be great leaders . Most famous scientists, philosophers, artists and thinkers are introverted.
So let’s appreciate them and understand them better from now on.
