Assam government in order to promote agricultural sector in Assam has taken four new initiatives:
1. Assam Millet Mission
2. Assam Fodder Mini Mission
3. Seed vertical
4. Natural Farming
Know about the Initiative
The main objective of Assam Millet Mission is to increase millet consumption for improving nutritional security along with it increased productivity demand for millets and promote millets processing organizations programmes by the state government. In order to achieve this goal the government will established District Millet cells in every district and its chairperson will be Deputy commissioner of different district.
The second initiative is Assam Fodder Mini Mission which Focus towards achieving self-sufficiency in fodder production and to reduce dependence on other states for fodder resources. Earlier fodder were taken from other state and it will also make effective post-harvest management in fodder through crop residue management, mechanisation, silage making and baling to ensure year round availability. The mission will also seek to leverage the Central government schemes for fodder production and creation of fodder entrepreneurship. In Assam fodder mini missions initiative Deputy Commissioner will act as the chairman of the respective District fodder mission cells (DFMC)
The third initiative taken is Seed vertical. The major goal of the project is to strengthen the seed system of Assam. which Work on Implementation of the seed vertical is in progress.
The another initiative is Natural farming the main Objectives behind this goal is to establish a decentralised cluster model to identify, mobilize, and train ‘master farmers’ to institute community-based dissemination of zero budget natural farming (ZBNF).
Some of the district which has been selected for this project are Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Nagaon and Kamrup
