Sualkuchi famous for silk industry in Assam. Government of Assam has set an enquiry for product made of fake materials. According to the sources Minister of the state government will take strict action against trader selling fake silk products branded as Sualkuchi.
According to the handloom Reservation Act the violators would be liable to six months imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000.
The challenge faced by Assam in Silk weavers is increased pollution leading to less productivity. One of the rising cost of silk raw materials is Competition with poly paat and the machine-made polyester clothes exported from other states and a result which become cheaper to compared to Muga-paat whuch have posed a serious threat to the handloom industry.
Through this Industry nearly 60,000 families are dependent on the silk industry in Assam. Assam produced about 97% of total global production, apart from etu and pat Assam produced golden silk which is famous in the state of Assam.
