Members of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in Meghalaya has called for a meeting of traditional heads to revisit the loA that made Khasi domain a part of Indian union.
Under Article 371A, Nagas also enjoys ownership and transfer of land and its resources.
The chief executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) said Khasi States had sought special status, like Nagaland has under Article 371A, which protects socio-religious and customary practice of Nagas with right to administration of civil & criminal justice as per Naga Customary laws. But no such rights were provided to Khasis.
The KHADC said the provisions can be added to the Sixth Schedule, which “can be amended by Parliament”.
Some members of KHADC also agreed that the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement signed with the Dominion of India between December 15, 1947 and March 19, 1949 should be studied. This treaty was signed by the Governor General of India, Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, on August 17,1948.
