The Ministry of minority affairs ministry has come up with a scheme to restore the Parsi population in county. This scheme was initiated in year 2013 to check the declining Parsis population.
This Population which has highest in Maharashtra followed by Gujarat is now declining in India.
The population was about 1,10,000 in 1941 but by 2011 it decreased to 58,000. The Ministry of Minority affairs in order to increase their population Jiyo Parsi scheme was launched.
Shernaz Cama, Director of Parzor Foundation, one of the implementing bodies for this scheme said, “Since the launch of the scheme (till July 15), 376 babies are born, which is more than the average of 200 babies born in the Parsi community every year”.
“About 30% of those who get married have an average of one child each and the same 30% of the people are over 65 years of age. The average age of women marrying in the Parsi community is 28 years and that of men is 31 years,” he also added
Cama said to PTI, “The main reason for not getting married is the strong feeling of independence among youth, especially women. They also have the responsibility of taking care of their elderly, which is another reason why they are not able to get married”.
