Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday inaugurated a Solar Power Plant at Lalpool in Udalguri district.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Happy to inaugurate 25-MW Boko Solar Park at Bhalukghata, Boko in Kamrup district. The project will lead to enhanced solar power generation, employment opportunities, check environmental degradation and augmentation of power generation capacity in Assam,” he said.
The 25-MW plant was set up under the Assam solar power energy policy 2017. It has been developed under build, own and operate model by the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) and Azure Power.
As per report, Private partner is responsible to design, build, operate (during the contracted period) and transfer back the facility to the government. The government will allow private sector partner to collect revenue from the users.
The main aim of the power department is to produce at least 5 crore units of electricity from the Rs 300 crore solar power project.
Which will also benefit the people of living in residents area of Darrang, Udalguri and Sonitpur Districts.
The Lalpool solar power plant in Udalguri was the first such facility under it. Two more solar power units in Nagaon and Silchar are also being developed under the policy.
Assam Solar Energy Policy was announced in 2017. As per this policy Assam will meet 50 per cent of its power demand through solar energy by the year 2026. The 25 MW solar power plant at Udalguri is developed according to this policy .
25-MW capacity will be inaugurated at Boko in Kamrup district soon, Sarma said.
