Garukhuti Multi purpose Agriculture Project is seems to be successfully attaining its goals. It is expected that Garukhuti will act as model for agricultural revolution in Assam.
Sootea MLA, Padma Hazarika on Thursday said that this multi project is a dream child of CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and aims to achieve an agro revolution with the involvement of local unemployed youths through integrated farming by fulfilling the demand for vegetables, milk, fish,meat etc for consumer of Guwahati city.
The project at present is functioning in an area covering 10,700 bighas of government allotted land, he added. In addition in a statement Hazarika said some circles with vested interest and political motives have been targeting the project with allegations of fund misuse. Today I strongly refute such allegations as false and baseless. The project has received an amount of Rs 9,52,93348 from the state Director of Agriculture , of which an amount of Rs5.23 crore has been incurred as total expenditure, he said.
The project at present owns 501 gir cows, including 181 calves, 119 pigs,10 tractors, one harvester and silage machine , 100 solar irrigation pumps, 3 permanent cowsheds and one temporary cowshed, one pig shed, one handloom training centre, 6 constructed highlands, two fisheries – each covering 30 bighas of land, official said.
As per sources, Sipajhar legislator Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and Darrang DC Pranab Kumar Sarmah were also present on the occasion.
Know about Garukhuti project
Garukhuti is in Darrang district under Sipajhar tehsil. It is a 9.6 crore for an ‘agriculture project’. The project would promote afforestation and agriculture activities, involving indigenous youth. It will create employment opportunities for youth of the region. 134 Ecological Task Forces deployed for massive afforestation activities. As per information 2000 Gir cows have been transported to Garukhuti.
