Durand Cup Football Tournament to be held in Assam the date has been declared which will begin from August 17 to September 4,2022.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclose three Durand Cup trophies namely: Durand Cup, Shimla trophy and President’s Cups.
Stating about the 134 years old Durand Cup Football tournament CM Sarma in a statement stated said tournament in Assam has a historic event for the people of the state, he added government of Assam has been naturing talents so that the country become a sporting superpower in days to come
In addition to the football tournament Sarma said that the 131st edition of the Durand Cup is special sense that 20 teams, including 11 from the Indian Super League will be participant.
Sarma further stated that all efforts are on to revive the glories of tournament such as Bordoloi Trophy in the state.
Employment opportunities for sports person, sports pension, coaching camps are some of the steps measures taken by the government, he said.

“It’s perfect having more games in India. It has been long time coming, regardless of its cup competitions, pre season tournament or post season tournaments, It doesn’t matter. As long as you can increase the number of games from 20 to 30. You need at least 30 competitive games and the calendar also has to be increased in terms of the number of months, “ said former Bengularu FC midfielder Erika Paartalu.
The Durand Football Tournament aka Durand cup is a football competition in India which was first held in 1888.
