The Cabinet Minister of Assam on Thursday approved the new Assam Tourism Policy 2022. The policy was drafted after detailed deliberation with the World Bank.
Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah addressing the new policy said “ the policy has been chalked out as per guidelines of the World Bank, which aim at sustainable development and local employment generation” said Baruah.
”As many as 50 tea gardens with iconic bungalows close to existing tourism circuits would be selected for development of infrastructure in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode,” Baruah added.
As per sources, the main feature of the policy include engagement of local people both directly and indirectly in various tourism sector, focus on coordination between tourism and transportation sectors, medical and wellness, golf tourism and so on said official.
The cabinet has also decided to develop the Basbari lodge located at Manas national Park into a high clss hotel.
As per report the state government will collaborate with the Indian Hotel Company to construct it bin an area of 3.25 acres.
Key features of the policy-
Include engagement of local people both directly and indirectly in various tourism endeavours, Development of home stay schemes among local
communities, Focus on coordination between tourism and transportation sectors,Creation of special tourism zones by promoting tea tourism, golf tourism, medical and wellness, adventure tourism along with the existing wildlife and heritage circuit in PPP mode, Tea tourism to promoted-develop 50 tea gardens. Rs 2cr to 50 tea gardens will be given.
