A new type of animal-derived Henipavirus named Langya Henipavirus (LayV) has been detected in Shandong and Henan provinces of China. The virus was found in the throat swab samples of patients who came complaining of fever in eastern China. So far that there have been no fatalities reported among humans due to the virus infection. This newly discovered Henipavirus, which may have come from animals, is associated with some febrile cases, and the infected people have symptoms including fever, fatigue, cough, anorexia, myalgia, and nausea.
Currently There is no known treatment or vaccine for the virus infection. However, with supportive care complications can be managed.
