On September 5 , Monday, apart from celebrating Teacher’s Day the North-Eastern Hill University (Nehu) also marked another significant occasion . Nehu signed an MoU with nine organisations, which includes universities, institutes of research and higher learning and start-up industries to strengthen research in the first university of the northeast.
Meghalaya governor Satya Pal Malik who is also the chief Rector of (Nehu) graced the MoU signing event. Representatives from all nine organisations were present during the event which marked dual occasions of Teacher’s day and MoU signing ceremony.
During the event , while presenting his speech the Meghalaya governor praised and congratulated the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Prof. Shukla for his work leading towards the upliftment of NEHU and he also stated that in today’s time, research is the key to solve a lot of problems through which the nation can evolve as self-sufficient. However, due to lack of collaborations, the growth is not being observed.
During his speech while reminding about Patna University ,once known to be the Oxford of East, the Governor stated that the research quality has dropped in Indian institutes and Universities since its factually evident that only 10 to 12 Nobel Laureates are Indians with half of them being foreign citizens and a few are Indian-born but foreign-born, like Mother Teresa, who received the Nobel Peace Prize.
He further emphasized the need of more investment in education by the government. He then after wishing happy teacher’s day ,congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and his team for signing the MoU and concluded his speech.
Meanwhile ,the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla mentioned the event to be a remarkable one with NEHU collaborating with nine organizations.
He further added that the MoUs focus on core areas of cooperation like academic, scientific, and academia-industry-business cooperation between NEHU and these institutions, universities, and industries in terms of collaborative programs and other academic exchanges.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla mentioned the importance of NEP 2020 in collaborating with different organizations and added that to escalate the collaboration in innovation, technology, and research with other universities, institutes, and industries, NEHU has been successful in attracting renowned national and international R&D institutions and universities to the university, since in the past six months foreign delegates and officials visited the university campus thereby paving the way for collaborations.
