The ban on manufacturing and sale of home-grown grape wine in the state has been lifted by the Mizoram government. Mizoram excise minister Dr K Beichhua informed the Mizoram assembly that a new “Grape wine rules” has been drafted.
And the new drafted rules are sent to the Mizoram law and judicial department for vetting. And Beichhua also further informed about the wines prepared from other fruits, besides grapes, which would also come under the new rules.
The Mizoram government would levy the Excise duty on the locally processed grape wine and the “grape wine rules” would facilitate manufacture and sale of grape wines.
The draft rules were recently approved by the Mizoram cabinet .Meanwhile the rules for processing locally grown grapes to make wine in the state will be notified by the Mizoram government .
However as per the rules , manufacturing and sale of wine from grapes grown outside the state would not be allowed, the minister said.
