KT Sukhalu , Nagaland School Education & SCERT Advisor, released twelve Nagaland heritage-based short films at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on Wednesday. This comes as an initiative of State Council for Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Nagaland.
Featuring the subject of the origin of the Nagas, the art of Naga tattoo, the weaving craft, Megalithic culture , traditional architecture, the Naga Morung, Traditional Naga games, Terrace cultivation, traditional Basket weaving , traditional peer groups ,traditional cuisine and Traditional village governance of the Nagas, these twelve short films are meant to educate ,encourage and aware the students about their roots and cultural heritage thereby make them learn and preserve the Naga culture, values, customs and practices.
During the release of the films, Sukhalu mentioned that there are very little documentation done of Naga heritage, culture, and traditions and he asked the SCERT department to document those.
He also added that these films will help the students get a clear vision of the cultural Identity and Heritage of the Naga’s and develop a strong sense of identity among them thereby they will also be encouraged to carry forward the rich cultural legacy of the Naga’s through different generations.
Moreover , Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary for School Education & SCERT Nagaland, said that , culture is our identity and a person who is not aware of his culture and traditional practices is ignorant.
She also stressed on the need of teaching the children about the knowledge of the state, cultural practices and history.
Kevileno Angami mentioned that SCERT has come up with the Nagaland Heritage video. And the Nagaland Heritage textbook has already been introduced in Nagaland which helps children learn the dialect and language, cultural practices and poems of different tribes. And now with the release of the video, it would act as an added advantage .
SCERT director N Chumchanbeni Kikon said that,the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas’ can be successfully preserved only if they learn to value , then carefully document it and transmit it to the next generation.
She further added that a total of 15 Naga heritage-based short films were documented by the SCERT Nagaland and out of those , three were released in 2020 and twelve released now. As per reports the films will be distributed in 16 districts among selected schools in Nagaland.
Apart from this the films will also be made available on SCERT website, SCERT YouTube Channel and in National educational repositories.
However the release of these twelve Nagaland Heritage based films occurred with the 3rd batch Graduation Ceremony of the 9 month diploma in School counselling and the induction of the 4th batch. Both the programmes coincided on the occasion with 38 trainees from the 3rd batch of Diploma in School Counselling were conferred diploma and as per reports 31 new candidates were inducted into the course as the 4th batch during the programme.
