In order to mark the 400th Birth Anniversary of Mahavir Lachit Barphukan on November 24, Govt of Assam has launched a new app/portal to allow citizens pay tributes to the great Ahom General by writing & submitting essays.
During an official ceremony held at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday, Chief Minister of Assam ,Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a mobile application/portal titled lachitbarphukan.assam.gov.in .
The mobile application/portal will work as a platform for people in Assam and beyond, to enable them to pay their tributes to the great Ahom army general on his 400th birth anniversary in the form of write-ups and essays.
The mobile application which is now open for public to use will be available in both Android and iOS operated phones. People of India can sign-in to the portal through a one-time password (OTP) that will be generated on their mobile phone number and for those residing abroad can apply for the same through an OTP that would be sent on their e-mail.
During the event, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing about the valour of the great warrior son of Mother Assam, Mahavir Lachit Barphukan mentioned about the aim of the portal which is to ensure majority of participation by people in Assam and beyond to make it a remarkable 400th birth anniversary celebration of Lachit Barphukan, so as to relive his ideals of patriotism and love for the motherland by the Ahom army general.
While elaborating on the same, the Chief Minister further said that with the upcoming birth anniversary celebration of Ahom army general, there will a mass movement built up where people from all sectors would be encouraged to pay their tributes to Mahavir Lachit Barphukan and even express their opinion through short write-ups and essays. Later those write-ups and essays will subsequently be uploaded on the portal, following which an acknowledgement certificate from the government of Assam, bearing the signature of the Chief Minister, would be provided to the participants in the portal itself.
In addition ,Dr. Sarma said that there will be option of writing for a participant either on any piece of paper or on a pre-formatted booklet that can be downloaded from the application/portal, printed-out and after completion of the write-up,it can be scanned and uploaded to the application/portal.
Another option apart from this is typing the write-up on the portal itself. Dr. Sarma further added that starting November 18, the district administrations within their respective jurisprudence will distribute a total of 1 crore pre-formatted booklet of 2 pages each in physical format across the State. With this step it will be beneficial to reach out to those unable to participate in the initiative due to lack of technical know-how, poor internet connectivity, lack of smartphone, etc.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also declared that on November 18, there will be essay competition with Lachit Barphukan as the subject among the students in all schools, colleges and universities of the State .Subsequently the best writings selected will be awarded at district and state level . Moreover every individual writing by the students would be uploaded on the portal, the Chief Minister stated.
Apart from this on that same day, Assam Police shall organise march-pasts in every district as a mark of respect towards the great warrior Lachit Barphukan during his tenure as the commander of Ahom army. Similarly district administrations will organise week-long cultural, sporting and other events including speeches by eminent personalities on November 18.
The celebrated valour of Lachit Barphukan, who stood like Himalayas between Assam & Mughal invaders, is eternally inspirational.
