Nagaland’s pilot project on the e-selling of large cardamom was launched on Friday. The pilot project was virtually launched by D Sathiyan, secretary of, Spices Board, Kochi, at an Export Oriented Seminar with focus on Spices of Nagaland & Launch of Pilot Project on E-Selling of Large Cardamom held at at Niathu Resort, 7th Mile Chumukedima organised by the Spices Board of India on October 28.
During the occasion, the MLA and adviser to the horticulture and border affairs department Mhathung Yanthan mentioned about the potential of Nagaland to produce spices at an industrial scale for exports.
According to reports during 2021-22, Nagaland exported 42,265 metric tonnes (MT) of spices, amounting to Rs 14.907 lakh.
The Advisor further said that with the launch of the e-selling platform , this is an appropriate time to strengthen the sector and will also build connection between producers and sellers . He also hoped that the digital platform will attract a large number of exporters and traders. He also stressed on the need to meet global demands by educating the farmers to meet the required quality standards.
E-selling gives benefit to not just one single product but for all the spice farmers in the State as a whole .
While appreciating the contributions contributions made by the Spices Board for promoting and developing spice cultivation in Nagaland the Advisor mentioned their spread as immense in Nagaland and the NE (North East) region.
Meanwhile ,Y Kikheto Sema, APC & Secretary, Department of Agriculture stated that since India is the world’s largest producer of spices and large cardamom, the NE region plays a crucial role in contributing to this on a larger scale.
The Spices Board of India was first established on February 26, 1987 and has 84 offices located across India. currently in Nagaland, the board has two offices set up in Dimapur and Kohima.
