Assam police organized a “Passport Mela” on Sunday at Silchar to clear off the pending applications for passports.
The initiative hosted by Assam Police is a first-of-its-kind . According to reports around 1,700 applicants had been given appointments and were asked to remain present along with all the documents required for police verification for getting a passport.
While speaking on the initiative Cachar district SP Numal Mahato said , the police department was instructed by the Chief Minister thereby to be people-centric and thereby speed up all the works related to people’s service. So following the same this passport Mela was organized to dispose the pending passport verifications. He further said that such initiatives help to strengthen the police-public relation.
Moreover in order to help people avail affidavit , the local authorities of the district court were also requested to be present there.
Cachar district SP Numal Mahato also added that people with genuine documents awaiting police verification were urged to come here and avail the one day benefit.
The Passport Mela which continued for the whole day was organized at Cachar SP office premises and was inaugurated by Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy.
