Shillong’s Supercare Hospital has conducted Northeast’s first-ever CAD/CAM Alloplastic Bilateral Temporomandibular joint replacement surgery.
The surgery was performed on a 24-year-old female patient from West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya by a team of doctors headed by Dr. Bobby Linda Majaw from Shillong and Dr. Ashutosh Vatsyayan from Guwahati .
According to a press statement released by the hospital, the female patient had visited the Supercare Hospital with a complaint of severe pain in Bilateral temporomandibular joints (TMJs), a sliding joint connecting the lower jaw bone to the skull.
Beause of the issue she also faced difficulties in eating and chewing food also while opening and closing her mouth, and biting her upper and lower teeth for the past year due to severe pain.
The surgery lasted for eight hours and the team of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, who are part of the OncomaxNE association conducted the surgery.
According to reports after the surgery the patient had no pain in her Bilateral temporomandibular joints (TMJ ) and she was able to open and close her mouth properly.
Also as per further reports, the surgery was supported with the MHIS government health insurance scheme and the team of doctors included -Dr. Debashish Borkotoky (OMFS) and anesthetists Dr. Sangeeta Kar and Dr. Janardhan Bordoloi.
