Under eye dark circles are commonly seen among most people. The area under your eyes looks darkened which in some cases may appear as shades of blue, purple, brown or black depending on the skin tone or other factors. But having those dark circles give us a tired or even an older look
Dark circles might have many possible causes. In most cases stress, fatigue ,aging, genetics etc triggers dark circles under your eyes. Generally dark circles are not a cause of concern and instead having dark circles is considered as a normal part of life. But because of the stress to look flawless people take the option of cosmetics to conceal their under eye bags.
Although there are several reasons for dark circles but the common ones are :
Dehydration- If the body is not properly hydrated then the skin beneath the eyes appears to look dull and sunken.
Stress- Stress leaves mark on your face. When you are stressed, then blood is directed to other parts of your body, barring the face . This makes dark circles appear more noticeable and apparent.
Lack of sleep- Sleep deprivation generally causes fluid to build under our eyes which it why it gives a puffy look and the skin starts to look pale and lifeless.
Wearing glasses- If you wear regular spectacles with frames too tight, the frames may be placing pressure on the skin below your eyes,which hampers blood circulation in that area and eventually create dark circles.
Lack of eye care- Eyestrain or Using phone in the dark— Eye strain can occur if you keep staring at your television or computer screen or even use phone in the dark. Because of the strain it can enlarge the blood vessels around the eyes. Later the skin surrounding the eyes darken.
Sun overexposure- Too much of Sun exposure causes to produce an excess of melanin in your body, melanin is the the pigment that gives your skin color. Excessive sun exposure especially under your eyes can cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.
Eye Care to reduce the appearance of Dark circles –
- Drink more water and other fluids to stay hydrated
- Make sure to get enough sleep to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
- Use good quality under eye creams to hydrate and smoothe the skin around your eyes.
- Use cold tea bags under your eyes to increase circulation since tea contains caffeine and antioxidants.
- Apply Cold spoons to your eyes to help shrink dilated blood vessels. This will help reduce puffy eyes and dark under eye look .
