The fourth finger of our hand next to the little finger is termed as ring finger especially of the left hand, on which the wedding ring is worn mostly .
It is believed that originally the tradition of wearing a wedding ring on the fourth finger of the left-hand dates back to ancient Egypt. The wedding bands or rings were considered as a symbol of eternity . According to ancient belief a delicate nerve runs from the ring finger which connects the way to the heart.
The heart is believed to hold our emotions. Similarly same tradition of the wedding ring was followed by the Ancient Greeks and Romans which was gradually passed across world.
However it is also true that there is no logical explanation of vein being passed from our ring finger connecting our hearts. But still people continue to wear their engagement rings on their ring fingers as people were attached and habituated with the age old practice. The connection of hearts with love is eternal and heart gets involved to express our love and emotion.
Wearing it specifically on the ring finger might vary in some cases but however wearing a ring is obvious for engaged or married couples .Its a common practice to wear wedding or engagement rings on the ring finger by tradition .
However time has transformed many traditional practices. In many countries people consider the right hand ring finger to be proper instead of left hand to exchange wedding or engagement rings but the custom of the fourth or ring finger is followed globally .
