The chief monk of World Buddhist Pope Association of Korea, Shakya Gasan will lay the foundation stone of International Buddhist University in South Tripura’s Manu Bankul on November 29 around 2 PM , the International Buddhist Confederation Secretary General Dhammapiya said on Sunday.
Manu Bankul in South Tripura is located around 90 kilometres away from the state capital Agartala.
The Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University (DDIBU) is expected to become the first Buddhist-run university in India to be headed by Buddhist Monastics and run and monitored by Buddhists . The university will offer Buddhist education along with courses in other disciplines of modern education as well.
During the foundation laying ceremony , apart from top officials of the Tripura government, senior Buddhist monk from Thailand Dr Pornchai Pinyapoong will also be present.
Besides the ceremony will be attended by guests from Vietnam, Myanmar, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Canada.
Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankar is scheduled to visit Tripura for a day on November 29.
Dhammapiya also informed that the Dalai Lama will not attend the foundation laying ceremony.
However, the Dalai Lama has sent best wishes for the International Buddhist University.
