While the case of ragging at the Dibrugarh University is still ongoing, a new case of ragging has been reported from Jorhat.
As per reports , a first-semester student of Jagannath Baruah College in Jorhat has accused his seniors of ragging forcing him later to leave his hostel (Syed Abdul Malik) and shift to private accommodation. In response to his claims, a case has been filed in the Jorhat Police Station by the administration of the Jagannath Barooah College of Jorhat , Assam against nine students accused of ragging a first-year student.
The first-year student identified as Pranab Jyoti Chetia hails from the Lakhimpur district of the reputed Jagannath Barooah College of Jorhat had posted a video on a social media site accusing some of his seniors of harassment.
As per mentioned the student hailed from a very poor family in the Lakhimpur District of Assam and which is why it was meant to be convenient for him to reside in the college hostel .But he had to go through a difficult stay inside the hostel because of the accused seniors who made his life difficult which is why he had to vacate his accommodation and shift to a PG.
As per reports, the student reached on the verge of mental breakdown after being victimized and he did not eat for two days .
While speaking to media he said that although he put in his complaint but he was forced to take it back and in addition he didn’t receive any support from the authority since they didn’t take any action even when he urged them to do so .
However on November 30, the victim Pranab Jyoti Chetia again put forward his previous complaints and sought clearance following which the principal filed an FIR against the accused students .
Based on the FIR a case has been registered no. 8093/2022 under Section 341/325/506/34 of the Indian Penal Code and under the prohibition ragging act 1998.
“In the FIR 9 students have been named as accused,” added the officer-in-charge.
As per the police, the ragging incident took place almost 3 months ago in September, at the time of the admission of the victim.
Meanwhile while speaking on the incident ,the principal of JB college told that the legal action has been initiated after a meeting of the internal committee of the institution and the suggestions from the Anti-Ragging Committee.
As per reports the names of the accused students have been revealed as Jintu Chetri, Bikramaditya Bora, Bishal Rongpi, Akashjyoti Saikia, Syamanta Upadhya, Bastab Gohain, Sumit Rai, Dipankar Tamuli and Ankur Chaudhary.
