Education is the key to success in the future and to have many opportunities in our life. Manguii who is a four year old studies in kindergarten goes daily to school dressed in bright pink raincoat with her mother Chinpuii.
Manguii and her mother Chinpuii who never leave her daughter alone cross the international border everyday between India and Myanmar to go to school. They cross a bridge, with the river Tiau flowing underneath. On the other side is a cement arch, a steel gate, and a sign that says, “Thank You, Visit Again
Since due to the epidemic many school and colleges were close, students were unreachable to go to school and get education. In February 2021 , a violet military coup in Myanmar left the country in distress forcing several school and colleges to be close, specially in the areas bordering India , to close down. Again, in the beginning of April 2022 school were reopen. It was the joy for Manguii and other children to go to school. In these way about 300 to 500 other students and Manguii started crossing the international border every day to keep their education going. Manguii her mother said “Schools in Khawmawi have remained closed due to the unrest and since I didn’t want my daughter to miss out on her education, I got her admitted at St Joseph’s School in Zokhawthar,”
As everyone have entitled to have education from cradle to grave. Students from Myanmar come to Zokhawthar to attend school daily. Which it takes them half an hour to reached to their location. When the school are open, Mizoram police keep the gate open from 7am to 9am to allow the school going students to cross the gate. Official said, “once they enter the India students go to nine government and private schools in Zokhawthar” There’s no fixed number of students from Myanmar who come to attend schools in Zokhawthar on a regular basis. On some days it goes up as high as 500. On Thursday, our logs say 396 entered India till 9am,” said a Mizoram Police official.
