From August 13 to 15 to participate in “Har Ghar Tiranga”campaign has been lunched to make it easy for citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes.
Earlier Flag Code allowed the flag, when displayed in the open, to be flown from sunrise to sunset as far as possible. Now, a member of the public, a private organisation or an educational institution is allowed to hoist the flag on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise, consistent with dignity and honour of the national flag.
Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla said the display, hoisting and use of the Indian national flag is governed by the Flag Code of India, 2002 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
The Amendment in 2021 allowed the use of polyester, apart from cotton, wool, silk and khadi for making hand-spun, hand-woven and machine-made flags.
