1st October is seen as a day with multiple occasions observed across the globe but among those three of them are majorly known to be observed .
Firstly it is International Coffee Day which is observed every year on October 1 to promote and celebrate coffee as a beverage. India is also one of the largest producers of coffee in the world, representing about 3.5% percent of world coffee production among coffee-growing countries. Although the origin of observing International Coffee Day is unknown but according to reports in 1983 an event was initially promoted in Japan by the All Japan Coffee Association. And then in 2014, the International Coffee Organization decided to launch the first official International Coffee Day in Milan as part of Expo 2015.
Because of its high quality, Indian coffee is considered as one of the best coffees in the world and gets a high premium in the international markets. There are two types of coffee produced in India : Arabica and Robusta. Arabica has a mild aromatic flavor due to which it has high market value than Robusta . But Robusta coffee with its strong flavor is mainly used in making various blends. Reportedly more than 2 million people in India are directly employed in the coffee industry . Coffee is largely produced in the southern part of India with Karnataka being the largest producer, kerala being the second and Tamil Nadu being the third-largest.
Secondly , World Vegetarian Day is observed annually across the world on October 1. It was established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. World Vegetarian Day aims to bring awareness to the environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle including saving the lives of animals.
Studies reveal that a vegetarian lifestyle can help reduce the risk of diabetes and also maintain a healthy life. Choosing meatless diet options can prevent the adverse effects on environment. This day aims to raise awareness about saving animals and lives and helping preserve the earth.
Thirdly ,October 1 is also observed as the International Day of Older Persons across the globe. United Nations General Assembly introduced International Day of Older Persons with an aim of honouring the contribution of older persons and highlighting into the problems that they face.
As per a report, this year the overall umbrella theme for the United Nations International Day of Older Persons in 2022 is “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World.” This day will be celebrated with a unique and complementary approach to the overall theme by the NGO Committees on Ageing each in New York, Geneva and.
