A Resume describes a candidate’s qualifications and unique skills and is considered as a key tool for job search . A great resume can help a candidate to stand out among other applicants and catch the attention of the prospective recruiter .
However a weird approach was seen taken by a woman , who in an attempt to stand out as exclusive got her resume printed on a cake and sent it directly to the employer.
The woman identified as Karly Pavlinac Blackburn from North Carolina was determined to get a job at Nike, hence instead of formally emailing it , she decided to send a unique resume. Karly also shared the story of her cake resume on her Linkedin in a long post .
“A couple of weeks ago I sent my resume on a cake to Nike.
Yes, an edible resume on top of a cake. Nike was having a huge celebration for JDI day (Just Do It day). LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick + Other Megastars were at the event. I had done some research and found a division within Nike called Valiant Labs which is a startup incubator for Nike ideas.
They are not currently hiring for any positions on that team, but I wanted to find some way for the team to know who I was.”
“What better way than to send a cake to a big party. I was brainstorming with my former colleague Trent Gander. When he said, “Karly do better, this is a creative place, show up in a creative way!” He was right. And then the brainstorming began. How could I get an edible resume on top of a cake delivered to a party (I wasn’t invited to), to THE team I wanted it to go to, from North Carolina all the way to Beaverton, Oregon,” she added.
Well the idea was beautifully planned, successfully executed but however the rare approach didn’t help karly get the job. But the idea of the edible resume impressed a lot of social media users and also triggered a backlash thereby dividing the audience in splits. While some termed the idea as Creative and impressive while some others commented it to be an inappropriate gimmick.
