Fruit diplomacy: Queen pineapple state fruit of Tripura was send to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.
The Tripura government on Thursday sent around 750 kg pineapples in around 100 cartons to Mr Sheikh.
In the year 2018, the consignment of ‘Kew’, a variety of the queen pineapple was declared state fruit of Tripura by President Ramnath Kovind.
It is inform that earlier,Prime Minister Hasina sent the famous Amrapali mango to Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha and other dignitaries as a token of greetings.
Assistant Director Tripura Horticulture Department Dr Deepak Baidya said, “The best quality of the crop is being sent to Bangladesh today. We hope this will further strengthen the relationship between our two countries. He also added that the Tripura government was eager to facilitate the export of Pineapple to Bangladesh.
Dr Baidya said since 2019 pineapple export to Bangladesh is stopped because the country has emphasized growing pineapple on their own. We are trying and if we get any opportunity in the coming days we shall not hesitate to resume the trade again as weare tied in fond memories with Bangladesh since 1971”, he said.
