The Karela government has recently alerted after anthrax cases was found in Athirapally. It was reported in several carcasses of wild boar in the Athirapally forest region in Thrissur distrct. According to the health official reported that this Disease mostly infect farm animals but it can affect human beings too.

This bacteria known as Bacillus Anthracis produce dormant spores that can live in the environment, like soil, for a long time, even decades.
When spores get into the body of an animal or person they can be “activated” and turn into active growing cells.
When they become active, the bacteria can multiply, spread out in the body, produce toxins and cause severe illness and death.
Health Minister minister Veena George stated “In Athirapally area carcasses of many wild boars were detected in last one week and forest officials alerted health and forest departments. Samples of these tests confirmed presence of anthrax. People who rear domestic animals will have to take enough precautions” she further added survey will be conducted in villages bordering forest areas in Athirapally and government has also taken enough steps to prevent the spread of the disease.
