Assam: With the increase of flood situation in Assam, it new challenge of the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has begun. Due to flooding in different region of Assam mosquito breeding is on rise. The state is witnessing the rise in vector borne diseases like Japanese encephalitis.
JE is an infection of the brain caused infection by the Japanese encephalitis virus. While most infections result in little or no symptoms, occasional inflammation of the brain occurs and its fertility rate is low.
So far, the cases were recorded in districts like Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nalbari, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Kamrup, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon and Sonipur mainly.
It is reported that, In Jorhat district altoghether three deaths has been inform and 17 have been infected by Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in recent times. Precaution and awareness measures has been taken in the district and people are asked to keep their household clean ,use mosquito net and light a fire to create smoke in the morning and evening hours official said.
The veterinary and animals husbandry department too had organized awareness meeting among pg farmers about the step to be taken.
According to the report in July and August month there have been 143 reported cases of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) and 16 related deaths so far this year.
