In the 2022 Global index of Sustainable Development Report, India ranked 121 out of 163 countries. India’s performance in SDG reports has worsened over the years in comparison with other countries.
Since 2020 and 2021 the ranking has continued to decline. In 2020 India rank was 120.
According to the data, One major challenge face by India is Ensuring decent work (SDG 8). India’s performance on climate action (SDG) 13 has slipped from 2019-2020.
According to the report of UN SDG, In the year 2022 SDG Index is topped by three Nordic countries Finland, Denmark and Sweden and all top 10 countries are European countries. More than four years of progress in alleviating poverty has been erased by Covid-19. Covid-19, Climate change and growing inequalities are converging to undermine global food security. 1 in 10 people worldwide suffer from hunger.
In a recent report by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) titled State of India’s Environment 2022: In Figures warns that five Indian states and two union territories, namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, face increasing danger from water spread. According to the report, over a third of India’s coastline experienced some degree of erosion between 1990 and 2018, with West Bengal suffering the most erosion.
Know about SDG
This is set of total 17 goals with objective of mainly- reducing poverty, protect environment, bring universal peace.
These 17 goals were adopted by all member countries of UN in 2015.
These goals have to be achieved by 2030.
UNDP – a specialized agency of UN will help member countries in attaining these goals.
