On the eve of Christmas , UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made surprise calls to public servants to thank them and express his gratitude for their sacrifices” after an “extraordinary year”.
Instead of broadcasting a Christmas Message to the nation, the UK Prime Minister of Indian Origin has chosen to give surprise calls and personally thank the public workers for their sacrifice and dedication.
As reported by the Guardian, the prime minister made apparently surprise calls to four workers and the crew of a naval ship to express his gratitude for their “sacrifices” after an “extraordinary year”.
According to a statement by Downing Street , among the people who he called were Sherwan Asif, who has worked for the British High Commission in Islamabad for more than 12 years .
As per the statement , Sherwan Asif was at the forefront of the UK’s response to the devastating floods that ravaged the country in June .
To all the British people working over Christmas – thank you.

The UK Prime Minister said in a statement, “Whether you are working in Mogadishu or Milton Keynes this Christmas, I want you to know that I am personally grateful for your sacrifice.
“This year has been an extraordinary year for so many reasons, but most of all, it’s been a year in which the true spirit and resilience of the United Kingdom has been on show, from the support given to our Ukrainian friends, to the work being done to ensure essential aid reaches the most vulnerable overseas.
“And closer to home, those who have checked on friends and neighbours, volunteers, public servants and essential service staff all working over Christmas – I am truly humbled by your dedication, and I know your selflessness this festive season will spread cheer across the country.”
The British Prime Minister , Rishi Sunak made surprise calls to diplomats in Pakistan, Somalia and Ukraine and in addition he also called the crew of the Royal Navy’s ice patrol ship HMS Protector.
According to BBC report, In the UK, Mr Sunak spoke to Chris Mitchell, who runs Smart Play, a government-funded holiday activities and food programme in Barnet, north London.
Mr Sunak also tweeted a short video to the people of Ukraine, writing: “This Christmas, we’re with you…”

As per reports, Rishi Sunak will spend his first Christmas as prime minister in his constituency of Richmond, in North Yorkshire.
