Representational Image

A total of 31 dogs were seized and rescued by the Bokakhat Police  from the roadside in Kuruwabahi, Bokakhat.

The 31 dogs of domestic breed were rescued stuffed in sacks with mouth and legs tied .The police are yet to investigate to find the culprits and the source of this dog smuggling .

In parts of north east India, illegal trafficking of dogs for their meat is on the rise.

Although dog killing and eating are illegal as per the laws of India but dog-eating hotspots still exist, and uncountable dogs continue to suffer terribly. It is still seen to be carried out in Nagaland and other Northeastern states, where  the meat of dogs  is on demand as its considered to have high nutritional and medicinal value. There is no account of how many dogs are killed for their meat.
