After a gap of more than 100 years Nagaland has got its second railway station on Friday at Shokhuvi. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio flagged off the Donyi Polo Express from Shokhuvi Railway Station.
The Donyi Polo Express runs daily between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and now the train connectivity has been extended till Shokhuvi, a few kilometers from Dimapur. Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will be directly connected by train service with the extension of Donyi Polo Express till Shokhuvi Railway Station. The Dimapur Railway Station was inaugurated in 1903.
During the flag off Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that Nagaland was getting the second railway station on Dhansari–Shokhuvi railway line after a huge gap of more than 100 years since 1903 when Dimapur station was opened .
The Donyi Polo Express train will cover a distance of 440 kms in 13 hrs and 40 mins which will have stoppages at Dhansiri, Diphu, Lumding, Lanka, Hojai, Chaparmukh stations in its extended connectivity between Shukhovi and Guwahati.
Taking to twitter, Rio said, “Today is a historic day for Nagaland. The State got the 2nd railway terminal passenger services after a gap of more than 100 years on Dhansari–Shokhuvi railway line. Elated to flag-off Donyi Polo Exp. from Shokhuvi station, an alt. route for N’land & Manipur passengers to Guwahati.”
Another tweet was followed after the earlier tweet which said that the chief minister has also requested the railway officials to ensure that the Dimapur Railway Station got its due share of development so that it expands further and continues to serve not only the residents of Nagaland but also those of Manipur and the neighbouring districts of Assam.
