Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday formally inaugurated the ‘Amrit Sarovar Sii Burii Water Conservation Project’ here in Lower Subansiri district.
Known as Sii lake and Lake placid by the locals, the lake is expected to increase surface and underground water availability
This comes asan initiative following PM Modi’s vision of setting-up 75 Amrit Sarovar across each districts of the nation; during the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.
The Arunachal CM dedicated the lake to people of Ziro Valley and further urged the district administration to “take up tourism professionally and train local educated unemployed youths as tourist guides, so as to give a means of livelihood.”
WRD Executive Engineer Hage Mobbing informed that “the project aims to augment the irrigation system of the wet rice paddy fields, whereby the overflowing water from the reservoir can be utilised for irrigation in the downstream catchment areas.”
He further added that “The check dam of the reservoir also regulates discharge of water, besides providing water for irrigation and industry, reducing and preventing floods.”
Hage Mobbing also mentioned that “the reservoirs act as a natural habitat for aquatic life, including fishes, crabs, frogs, dragonflies, nymphs, insects, aquatic weeds, submerged grass and plants carpeted by soil, sand gravel, boulder and organic matters.”
The lake includes an installed fish seed hatchery equipped with infrastructure accessories, nursery ponds, and rearing and stocking ponds. And the annual fish seeds breed and fish crops produced can be sold at remunerative prices in nearby markets. Hage Mobbing added.
Moreover, Sii Lake will be a recreational park for visitors to enjoy aquatic games and water sport facilities, including power and paddle boats, fishing, sightseeing and a cozy family restaurant with local and Indian cuisines.
