Today marked a momentous occasion as Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed academic building and auditorium of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU). The event, held at the City Campus of the University, was graced by the esteemed presence of Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu and Education Advisor to Assam Government Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, heralding a new era of educational excellence and accessibility in the region.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma expressed his delight at witnessing the remarkable growth of KKHSOU within a short span of time. He underscored the significant contributions of ancient Indian knowledge systems towards the growth of human civilization. With a legacy of such, Dr. Sarma urged the learners of the University and the youth of Assam in general to prioritize knowledge over mere educational degrees. He also called for the development of curriculum and Self Learning Materials to meet the high standards of gaining knowledge and wisdom.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Open and Distance Learning in advancing towards a more democratic academic setup, Dr. Sarma stressed the use of technology and vernacular mediums for providing education on indigenous History and Culture. He commended KKHSOU for its contribution towards Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) and urged for more commitment to bridging the gap between mass deprivation and skill education.Further, Dr. Sarma announced a financial assistance of Rs 20cr. to support the initiatives of the University taken at its Rani Campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu congratulated the University family on achieving a State of Art facility and emphasized the importance of Open and Distance learning systems in educating the masses. He highlighted the significance of KKHSOU’s contributions to the state’s educational landscape and called for universities to contribute significantly to the growth of a continuous learning apparatus.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das, emphasized the inclusive approach taken by the university in his Welcome address. The event was also attended by the Registrar, Directors of different Schools, faculty members, non-academic staff, learners, and other distinguished guests.
