Dr. Prashanna Gogoi, Renowned Assamese folk artist has been conferred with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for folk music and dance.
Earlier in 2003 , Dr. Prashanna Gogoi who is an internationally acclaimed artist was awarded the title of “Bihu Guru” by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
In 2003 , Prashanna Gogoi has been recognized as an Ethnomusicologist and Master Craftsman in making musical instruments by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi and was deputed to Spain during Vadya Darshan – an exhibition of Indian musical instruments, in University of Valladolid, Spain & conduct lecture-demonstrations on music and musical instruments crafting along with dances of Assam.
In addition he was also the Choreographer of Bihu Dance with 250 Artistes from the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Assam, in the Inaugural Cultural Ceremony of 1st Afro-Asian Games held at Hyderabad in 2003, where the team was also declared as the Best Cultural Team by the Organising Committee.
He was also awarded the Prestigious Delphic Laurel Award in Traditional One or Two String Musical instrument (bin) & Bronze Medal in Double Reed Traditional Wind Instrument (juria pepa) by representing India in the 3rd Delphic Games, held at South Korea in the year 2009.
Dr. Prashanna Gogoi had also presented Assamese Folk music & dances in more than27 Countries so far under the Sponsorship of ICCR, Ministry of External Affairs,Govt. of India, Zonal Cultural Centres, Ministry of Culture,Govt. of India, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi &Indian Missions abroad, since 1995 to till date.
