Bhaichung Bhutia, former Indian national footballer also famously known as Sikkimese Sniper, was elected as the new president of Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old former India captain was elected as the new president of the Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) unanimously by the leaders and workers of the party.
The election was done at a national conference of the HSP held at Gangtok in Sikkim.
Biraj Adhikari ,HSP general secretary said , “Bhutia will now play a proactive role in leading the HSP’s fight to get Sikkim rid of the current corrupt government and provide Sikkim with a transparent and responsive government.”
After being elected as the new President for HSP party, Bhaichung Bhutia expressed his gratitude and his vision of the future. In a statement issued by the party said, “We will continue to strive to serve the people of Sikkim and represent their hopes and aspirations … create endless opportunities for every Sikkimese to work together and achieve the true potential of our state.”
Bhutia expressed his gratitude to the outgoing president Bina Basnett for successfully completing her tenure. Dr. Bina Basnet served as the founding president of the HSP since the formation of the party in 2018.
