A court in Kokrajhar district of Assam has sent a man to 20 years in jail for raping a 10-year-old girl in July 2019. The convict has been identified as Sharidul Islam from Gossaigaon in Assam.
Joydeb Koch , the Special Judge for POCSO cases, has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused Sharidul Islam of Gossaigaon for the heinous crime and also instructed that in default of payment of the fine, the convict would have to go through imprisonment for one more year.
According to reports , Sharidul raped the girl when she went to the grazing field near a river to see her family’s cows. Later after a complaint filed by the victim’s uncle, a case was registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
