This year’s edition of the popular Hornbill Festival is all set to enchant the crowds from December 1, Thursday .
The 10 day festival is getting organized with the collaboration between government of India and Nagaland Government. The 23rd edition of Hornbill Festival is all set to begin on December 1 evening at Naga Heritage Village Kisama.While addressing a press conference on Tuesday evening at the office of Directorate of Tourism, Tourism, Art and Culture adviser H. Khehovi Yepthomi said the 10-day event will witness the visits of VVIPs and other dignitaries.
As per reports, the festival will be inaugurated by Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar as the chief guest, while governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and chief minister Nagaland Neiphiu Rio would be the chief host and host respectively. Meanwhile H. Khehovi Yepthomi will be the festival host. The tribal guest for festival will be Yekhüsu Tureng from Porbami village under Phek district.
The 10 day annual cultural fest of Nagaland-Hornbill Festival, is also termed as called the ‘Festivals of Festivals’, that showcases the rich and diverse Naga ethnicity through folk dances, traditional music, local cuisine, handicraft, art workshops, etc. This festival is celebrated in a grand manner in Nagaland.
The festival was first celebrated in the year 2000. The festival got its name from the Indian Hornbill. The Hornbill is a bird among the endangered species, and is an integral part of the Naga culture and because of its endangered existense it became a huge matter of concern to the Nagas. Hence in 2000, the Hornbill Festival was first celebrated with folk songs, dances, traditional games, and war songs.
The Hornbill Festival encourages inter-ethnic interaction and to promote cultural heritage of Nagaland.
