The first bird documentation event – ‘Tokhü Emong Bird Count (TEBC)‘ is going to be hosted by Nagaland from November 4-7 with an aim to promote and encourage conservation of birds in their natural habitat.
This bird documentation event is being organized in collaboration with the Wokha Forest Division and the Divisional Management Unit, Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), Wokha and Bird Count India.
According to an official statement, an event of public birding will be conducted and complete detail of birds would be included in order to create awareness among the students on bird conservation. Moreover according to further reports a birdwalk through woodland is likely to be a part of the event.
According to the guidelines, avid twitchers can watch and count birds from anywhere in Nagaland and upload the lists to eBird (www.ebird.org/india). And by November 30, 2022 all the lists can be uploaded.
Apart from this, Birders outside Nagaland who wants to be part of this event can go through the guidelines but however an additional step will be to share your checklists with eBird UserID : ‘tokhuemong’.
Dubbed after Tokhü Emong, the event has been a post-harvest festival of the Lotha Nagas. Tokhü Emong is known as a festival of thanksgiving, sharing, and reconciliation. The festivals aims to let go of past grudges and hostility through forgiveness and develop new bonds.
