As per a latest report a new born baby boy died after his mother, a 20-year-old who was HIV –Positive was allegedly left unattended for over six hours by hospital staff at a Firozabad Medical College ,UP .
According to reports , the pregnant woman was refused to touch by the Doctors at Firozabad Medical College and only acted after the hospital chief intervened. As per a TOI report ,the woman later gave birth to a boy who unfortunately died hours later.
As per the claims made by the woman’s family on Tuesday , the baby died due to delay in pre-birth treatment. Besides the women’s father who works in the bangle-making industry , said that the private hospital demanded Rs 20,000 for normal delivery.
The father reached the medical college around 2.50 pm on Sunday as per consultation with the district field officer of the National AIDS Control Organisation (Naco).
“…My daughter lay on a stretcher and kept crying in pain for over six hours. Despite repeated requests, no doctor came to help her,” he said.
After his daughter’s pain escalated with time , the senior officials got informed about the issue only after over six hours. After this, a nurse took his daughter to the labour room.
As per mentioned in a news report, he was quoted saying , “She gave birth to a baby boy who was having breathing difficulties. The staff didn’t allow us to closely see the child and took him to a special newborn care unit. The next morning, we were told that the child had died. The staff at the hospital are now putting pressure on me to sign a letter that it was no fault of theirs.”
Besides Naco field officer Sarita Yadav told TOI that the woman’s family could not bear treatment costs at private hospitals. So she called them at the medical college—however, no doctor or staff came near the pain-stricken woman.
As per reports the woman was living with her parents in Firozabad since her separation from her husband. The woman separated from her husband after a year of their wedding. She got the HIV infection soon after getting married, her family claimed.
Meanwhile addressing the matter , Sangeeta Aneja, principal at the Firozabad Medical College assured that an investigation based on complaint by woman’s family has been launched.
Ms Aneja told NDTV , “The patient came in around 3 pm. Those who were with the patient did not inform the doctors or anyone about her HIV positive status. As soon as I got to know, I formed an inquiry committee. I have spoken to everyone, they told me tests were performed on her like a regular patient since they were not aware of her HIV status. They found out around 4 pm, and even after that, doctors were present at all times. The delivery happened around 9 pm. As soon as the inquiry report is out, we will take action if anyone is found to have done anything wrong.”
