A new fish species has been discovered by a team of researchers from Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung from the Dikhow river in Nagaland.
The new species has been termed as Pethia dikhuensis by the research team led by Limaakum from the Department of Zoology at Fazl Ali College . The international journal for taxonomic studies—Zootaxa has published the details of the discovery .
Moreover as per reports more fish species have been indentified and the results are awaited according to Researcher Limaakum .
The species Pethia dikhuensis is termed as unique since the male fish of this species have reddish-orange fins and bodies which is why it has an artistic attention and value .
Found in the Indian subcontinent and Myanmar, the size of the Pethia are small (5-8 cm) and they are commonly called ‘barbs’.
