The order of Assam Government to suspend internet services in 25 districts to prevent malpractices in exam seems to have offended a section of public.
A social worker from Guwahati has filed a petition at Guwahati High Court to challenge the Assam Government’s recent order of blocking internet services in Assam on August 21 & 28.
Raju Prasad Sarma is identified as the petitioner . He has filed a writ petition with the assistance of ‘Internet Freedom Foundation’ an organization which supports net neutrality, free expression, privacy and innovation. The foundation tweeted about assisting Raju Prasad Sarma to file a writ petition .
As per reports due to the suspension of internet services, business establishments were suffering losses as well as inconveniences.
However the Assam Government’s decision comes under “Indian Telegraph Act, section 5(2) which allows temporary shut down of mobile internet for public safety or during an emergency.
