Renowned artist Neel Pawan Baruah will be cremated with full state honours at the Nabagraha Cemetery in Guwahati on Saturday.
Assam’s renowned artist Neel Pawan Baruah breathed his last today afternoon at around 3.15 pm at the age of 86.
The body will be taken from the Gauhati medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to his residence in Beltola.
Baruah was admitted to the hospital on September 22 with high fever.
Eminent artist Neel Pawan Baruah was born on June 1, 1936 at Teok of Assam’s Jorhat district. He was an extraordinaire personality known for using unusual mediums to portray his paintings.
After completing his education in painting at Santiniketan in West Bengal, Neel Pawan Baruah took painting lessons in New Delhi.
He began teaching at Guwahati Art College in the year 1966. The noted painter established the Charu – Karu Kala Parishad in Charaideo district.
The celebrated artist was honoured with the prestigious ‘Assam Saurav’ award by the Assam government for his contributions in the field of art and culture in 2021.
Neel Pawan Baruah was married to renowned singer Dipali Borthakur who passed away in December 2018.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to twitter to pay his condolence to the eminent artist. The condolence message which was shared in assamese said: “Deeply saddened by the demise of renowned artist and ‘Assam Saurav’ awardee, Neel Pawan Baruah. With his relentless pursuit of art over the past several decades ,he has contributed immensely not just in the state’s field of art but as a whole”.
