A three day long ‘Rising Sun Water Fest 2022’ was inaugurated on Thursday at Umiam Sports Complex. The event was inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister – Conrad Sangma.
While speaking on the inaugural ceremony, the Meghalaya CM commended the organizers and expressed his pleasure for the water festival organized for the first time in the state.
The Indian Army and the Meghalaya government has organized the rowing and sailing event for the first time as a part of Khelo India programme. The boating regatta is being hosted on the scenic Umiam Lake with participants from elite clubs from all over the country.
Taking to Twitter, the Meghalaya CM wrote “Inaugurated the Rising Sun Water Fest 2022 as part of @Kheloindia organised by @adgpi & the Govt. of Meghalaya at Umiam Sports Complex. Great to see the boating regatta on the scenic Umiam Lake with participants from elite clubs from all over the country. I wish all the participants the very best. May the best club win!”

According to reports apart from water sports the water fest includes various other attractions and highlights such as local cultural expo, food fest, art and craft exhibition.
