The 6th edition of ‘State Aquafest 2022’ was organized on Wednesday by the Meghalaya Fisheries Department at the premises of the State Central Library in Shillong.
With active participation of Meghalaya’s Fish farmers the event aims to showcase the developments in the fishery sector, promote entrepreneurship in the fish farming sector and generate awareness of the Recirculatory Aquaculture System and Biofloc Fish Farming.
The event was inaugurated by the Secretary of the Fisheries Department ,Sibhi Chakravarthy Sadhu, IAS . The event is initiated under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY and it aims to enhance fish production through the construction of new ponds.
The event had stalls managed by government departments, Self Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs, farmers, and entrepreneurs displaying and selling fish and other products.
Talking about the event, KN Kumar the Chairman of the Meghalaya Farmers (Empowerment) Commission said that the State Aqua Fest is a platform for buyers and sellers to come together. The event also acts as a medium for interactions between the government and farmers so as to meet the commitments to make Meghalaya become self-sufficient.
