As the nation commemorates its 75th Republic Day, signifying the day India’s Constitution was enacted, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) joined in the celebration today, witnessing active participation from students, faculty, and administrative staff. The ceremonial unfurling of the tricolor took place at 8:30 in the morning, led by the Vice Chancellor Prof G. D. Sharma, Advisor Dr RK Sharma, other officials, faculty members, and students at the university campus.
Following the flag-raising ceremony and the rendition of the national anthem, Prof GD Sharma, the Vice Chancellor of the University, addressed the gathered audience. He emphasized the significance of the moment, highlighting that the Constitution has granted the right to mutual respect and harmonious living. “In the diversity of our culture and languages, unity is fostered by the Nation’s Constitution under the leadership of Dr BR Ambedkar,” he remarked. “We must produce quality human resources, care for the needs of our people, and be accountable. Being educated, we are inherently more responsible individuals,” he added.
The program also featured addresses by other dignitaries and student representatives, delivering patriotic speeches. Republic Day celebrations included students singing patriotic songs and various cultural and sports competitions among students and staff. The celebration ended with prizes distribution to the winners of the competitions.
