A heritage village in Nagaland named Kisama is located in the Southern Angami region of Kohima District which is about 12km from Kohima on the National Highway number 39. The main venue of the Hornbill Festival is held at the Kisama Heritage Village . The name Kisama is a combination of the names of its two neighbouring villages: Ki from Kigwema, Sa from Phesama and Ma from both.

During the famous hornbill festival , the heritage village remains open to the public for one week in December. Conceptualised in the year 2000, the Hornbill Festival is a ten day annual tourism promotional event organised by the Nagaland Government to showcase Nagaland’s rich and traditional cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur.
The Hornbill Festival also dubbed as Festival of Festivals is one of the fastest growing festivals in India which attracts visitors from all across India . It is organized by the State Tourism and Art and Culture Departments every year from December 1 to December 10.
The Heritage Village is designed in a traditional fashion to keep the Naga Village alive. During the Hornbill festival it also serves as a nice campus with amenities, morungs of the various tribes and the arena/stadium for the cultural events and performances.
So basically the Kisama Heritage Village during the Hornbill Festival will give you a complete Naga experience . If you wish to visit the village during the festival then make sure to pre book your stay inorder to avoid last minute rush. However the winters in the region get very cold and you have to get yourself plenty of woolens to survive the chilling weather.

- By Air: Nearest air connectivity is at Dimapur which is well connected by flights with Kolkata and Guwahati. Kohima is about 74 km from Dimapur and can be reached by hiring a taxi or catching a state bus for Kohima.
- By Rail: Nearest rail connectivity is at Dimapur which connects the other major cities of North-East and the country. From Dimapur one can easily hire a cab or take a bus till Kohima.
- By Road: NH 39 connects Kohima to Dimapur spreading the connectivity to other parts of the country. You can book a cab or shared taxis from Kohima till Kisama Village which is just 12 km away.
